Being a Goalkeeper
Being a goalkeeper is a specialized skill and there’s an enormous demand for good, strong goalkeepers at all levels of the game. This program's focus is on developing goalkeepers from a young age, giving them confidence and understanding for this unique position. At the younger ages it's common for players to rotate through all positions, including goalkeeper. Except these players don't practice the goalkeeping position and therefore can become scared of it.
Goalkeepers usually possess certain attributes.
Attitude: Desire and passion for the game. Striving to improve and pride in stopping others from scoring.
Quickness: Moving around the goal area quickly and athletically.
Soft Hands: Able to catch the ball easily without giving up rebounds.
Brave: One of the most important factors in becoming a goalkeeper is to be brave. A keeper must be able to dive and go to ground at attackers feet.
Intro to Goalkeeping is for those players who have these attributes and enjoy the position, but aren't sure if they want to commit fully to being a goalkeeper. Our training sessions will allow players to gain a skill set and give them some success by feeling confident as a goalkeeper.
There are 3 Levels involved in our Intro Program, and with each level we continue to build on the basic concepts of goalkeeping. You can take part in the first Level alone or up to all 3. Each Level consists of 4 x 45 minute sessions. These sessions are appropriate for girls and boys ages U8-U12
